The Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) or EAN-13 code is a 13-digit code identifying product units destined for the retail point of sale.
It makes it possible to quickly recognise an item in a supply chain in a unique, global and unambiguous fashion and be able to perform inventory or check its associated characteristics.
This unique code enables all company’s trading partners to easily identify its products and communications about those items.
A GTIN code can be accompanied by a graphic representation in the form of a barcode.
To obtain a GTIN code and its related barcode you need to address a GS1 association.
